Invitation for humanitarian visa issued by the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (FMS of Russia), is NOT required for the visitors of the following countries: USA, EU countries, China and Japan. The aforementioned visitors can apply for visa on the basis of the direct letter of invitation from the host institution (Skoltech). Visitors from all other countries who require visa need invitation processed via FMS.
Humanitarian visa is required in case you wish to enter Russia for cultural purposes, science, sports, religion, etc. The following documents should be submitted in order to obtain a visa:
  1. Application form
Completed visa application signed by the Applicant only. Incomplete visa application forms shall not be processed. Application available online at
  1.  Passport
Valid national passport (original only and it should have at least two clear visa pages). It must be valid no less than six months after the visa expiration date.
  1. Photo
The photographs should be:
  • 3,5 x 4,5 cm taken against a light background (white or off-white) so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
  • Clear share quality and with the face in focus.
  • Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
  • Full face, non-smiling (without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background).
  • Please stick the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.
Note: Please follow these instructions carefully. If photographs presented do not meet these requirements your application will be considered incomplete.
  1. Money Order
Money Order or Certified Bank Check made out to the Russian Consulate for visa processing.
  1. Letter of Invitation
This visa is issued on the basis of an invitation submitted by the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (FMS of Russia), under the legislation of the Russian Federation following a petition from a Russian academic institution or on the basis of an invitation by the Russian Federation (MFA of Russia), or on the basis of a direct letter of invitation from the host organization or institution or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
